The route includes Port Augusta, Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Coffin Bay, Ceduna, Yumbarra Conservation Park, the Nullarbor Roadhouse, Kimba and Lake Gillies Conservation Reserve.

Tour itinerary
Adelaide & Eyre Peninsula itinerary
A 10 day / 9 night birding and photography tour beginning and ending in Adelaide, travelling through Port Augusta, Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Ceduna, the Nullarbor and Lake Gillies.
Adelaide, South Australia
Pick up from Adelaide airport or your accommodation before travelling north to Port Augusta, the base for the first two nights.
Port Augusta and Arid Lands
Explore the Port Augusta area and Arid Lands for Redthroat, White-fronted Chat, Rufous Fieldwren, Chirruping Wedgebill, Purple-crowned Lorikeet and honeyeaters when the eremophilas are flowering.
Whyalla to Port Lincoln
Travel south toward Whyalla for Western Grasswren, with chances for Splendid Fairywren, Redthroat and White-fronted Honeyeater. Continue to the southern Eyre Peninsula for Rock Parrot, Southern Emu-wren, Shy Heathwren, Southern Scrub-robin, Purple-gaped Honeyeater and White-bellied Whipbird.
Port Lincoln reserves
Spend the full day exploring reserves around Port Lincoln, following up local specialties and photography opportunities around the southern Eyre Peninsula.
Coffin Bay to Ceduna
Visit reserves around Coffin Bay before travelling north to Ceduna. Target birds include Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo, Brush Bronzewing, White-browed Babbler, Gilbert’s Whistler, Grey Currawong, Western Yellow Robin and Copper-backed Quail-thrush.
Yumbarra and the Nullarbor
Head north to Yumbarra Conservation Park for Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo and, if track conditions allow, a chance for Sandhill Grasswren. Later, travel to the Nullarbor Roadhouse and search for Nullarbor Quail-thrush and Naretha Bluebonnet.
Nullarbor Roadhouse
Spend a full day around the Nullarbor Roadhouse looking for the two main specialties and any other birds the area produces, including Ground Cuckoo-shrike, Rufous Fieldwren, Southern Whiteface and possibly Blue-breasted Fairy-wren.
Kimba and Lake Gillies
Return east toward Kimba and Lake Gillies Conservation Reserve. Target birds include Splendid Fairy-wren, Copper-backed Quail-thrush, Rufous Treecreeper, Gilbert’s Whistler, Western Yellow Robin, Blue-breasted Fairywren and other mallee birds.
Final Adelaide birding
The final day is flexible depending on your flight time or onward plans from Adelaide. Accommodation after the tour is not included.
