Darwin's weather

The Northern Territory has four main seasons.

Weather can shape the birding experience, so it helps to understand the wet season, dry season and build up before planning your trip.

December - February

Wet Season

These are the wettest months of the year, with high humidity, monsoonal rain and dramatic storms. Temperatures are usually around 25C to 33C.

March - May

Transition Into The Dry

This is the changeover into the dry season. Humidity can still be high, but it is usually quieter before the main tourist season begins.

June - September

Dry Season

The coolest and driest time of year, with low humidity and ideal birdwatching conditions. Tours should be booked early during this busy period.

September - November

Build Up

A hot and humid period before the wet season. It can be excellent for birding as birds gather around remaining water and become more active before breeding.
